These seizures have focal origin within the brain but may then spread to become generalised seizures.
If a partial seizure spreads from one hemisphere to the other side of the brain, this will give rise to a secondarily generalised seizure.
Generalised seizures, particularly myoclonic and tonic-clonic, are the most common type found in reflex epilepsy, though other types of seizures may occur.
As is the case with all generalised seizures, the patient is not conscious during the event but the seizure is so brief that the person appears to remain fully conscious.
